About

I am an artist and writer. I draw pictures that tell stories, and I write stories that create pictures in the mind of the reader. I also draw from nature a great deal, and those drawings tell stories of a different kind. I love the immediacy of drawing and the fact that a pencil and a piece of paper are the only tools required. The same is true for writing stories. That such simplicity of function can be used to create very complex images and thoughts is a paradox that I like.

My artwork is found in several corporate and many private collections. I have exhibited in juried group shows in numerous venues, including the J.B. Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky; the Bell Museum of Natural History in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I’ve had solo exhibits at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida; Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Fine Arts Center in Nashville, Tennessee; and at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My short stories have been published in the New Orleans Review, Cold Mountain Review and Vanderbilt Review. I’ve written articles and art criticism for Art Papers, the Nashville Scene, BookPage and other publications. I am a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
